The creator economy, crypto, & machine learning
Is it just me or has anyone noticed the increase in performative LinkedIn and Twitter posts?
I don't have the raw data on it but it seems like all of a sudden everyone is trying to boost their follower count and engagement levels. I could be bias but I’ve asked others and they feel similarly.
COVID and the recession have sparked a shift.
1. People are fed up with their jobs
2. They want to work from anywhere
3. They want freedom and to control their schedules
Some call it the Creator Economy. A new economy where masses of people are starting to create content as their primary source of income. This isn’t new per se but it seems like it’s coming at an accelerating rate.
So, what does that future look like? To me it looks like smaller companies, like startups and indie hackers working on content and interesting problems while AI is doing the bulk of the tasks that people don't want to do,
And so "work" is evolving to be more personally creative work with content being the core driver.
After all I am more inclined to want to support indie hackers and solo creators than I would want to support a massive corporation.
Can corporations exist in the future when people are turning into solo creators? Can they exist with very few people? With zero people? Is that a DAO?
Crypto and blockchain are still interesting despite it being cool and fun to trash on them right now*. Perhaps this recession/market correction has flushed out lots of the crap associated with crypto and blockchain.. because 95% was in fact crap (scams).
The confluence of the Creator Economy, crypto, and AI does seem as though they could unlock some new shifts in the way that we work. They might shift the very nature of what work is.
One thing is for certain - we will continue to evolve.
